A marine mechanical loading arm, also known as a MLA is a mechanical arm consisting of articulated steel pipes that connect a tankship such as an oil tanker or chemical tanker to a cargo terminal.
The motion-sensing offshore loading arm has been developed for special purpose LNG transportation. Global FLNG projects have increased over the past two years. Therefore, the LNG needs to be transferred to the carrier via an offshore loading arm. Manually connecting the offshore loading arms is difficult and dangerous due to the movement of the sea water which causes the two vessels to move. The use of motion-sensing marine loading arms will solve this problem to a great extent. This new marine loading arm will automatically position and connect to each other. This new technology will be a demand driver for marine loading arms in the future. One of the key factors driving the market is the rising demand for oil and natural gas across the globe. Global liquid fuel use has increased dramatically over the past two decades (1999-2019). The growth in global liquid fuel consumption is mainly attributed to the decrease in crude oil prices between 2014 and 2016 and the increase in vehicle sales. The number of vehicles in use around the world is steadily increasing, leading to an increase in global fuel consumption. Hence, oil demand will rise during the forecast period.
